PACK CLEANING
We recommend wiping your pack with a damp cloth to remove dirt. If the pack is extremely dirty and needs a deeper cleaning, soak it in cool or warm water with a very mild soap. Rinse the pack thoroughly with cool water. If soap residue remains in the fabric, it may create suds if exposed to water or sweat.

DO NOT wash your pack in a washing machine. Machine washing may damage the pack or affect the integrity of the fabric and fasteners, and will void the Got Your Bak™ Guarantee.

RESERVOIR CLEANING
The best way to care for your reservoir is to clean and dry it after every use, especially if you fill the reservoir with anything other than water. However, if a reservoir has not been cleaned after every use, and mold or discoloration develops:

  1. Use hot water and a CamelBak Cleaning Tablet. (Or use 2 tablespoons of baking soda or bleach instead of CamelBak Cleaning Tab.) Mix the solution inside your reservoir and elevate the reservoir above the tube and Big Bite Valve. Pinch the bite valve, allowing the solution to flow into the drink tube and fill the bite valve.
  2. Let the reservoir and cleaning solution sit in the reservoir and drink tube for about 30 minutes.
  3. Wash the reservoir with hot water and mild soap. Be sure to completely rinse away the cleaning solution in the reservoir and drink tube before using again. You can also use CamelBak brushes from our Cleaning Kit to scrub your reservoir and drink tube. Brushes are the best way to ensure you are scrubbing all of the areas of the reservoir clean.
  4. Once the reservoir is clean, be sure to air dry overnight so no moisture is trapped inside, which can cause mold to grow.

These steps will make your reservoir safe for use. If there are still spots left behind, these are permanent mold stains that may not be removable. However, your reservoir is still safe and usable after you’ve cleaned it.

        I bought a motherlode in early 2004.

Almost a decade later, I still use the same exact motherlode. You are probably thinking, it is faded and gross? Au contraire. This puppy can be thrown in a front loading washer and comes out looking brand new. The only thing that has deteriorated on the pack is the velcro straps ends fraying and one of the buckle clasps broke.

This backpack has been with me absolutely everywhere and not used politely or sparingly. From back country skiing in Japan, ice climbing in Argentina, wandering in the desert at burning man, sailing on the open Atlantic, etc. It literally has come with me on every trip I have been on for almost a decade. It is the first thing I look for when I go on a trip along with my passport, sunglasses, and iPhone.

If you are looking for the ultimate day-to-day adventure pack. You found it.

Since Camelbak does not make pouches I had bought some pouches from Blackhawk (who make very good packs). The lack of pack pouches by Camelbak is surprising. This is a solid C+ performer - I would say just as good as the Blackhawk Raptor it is replacing (combat damage).

A brilliant bag. One that you don't want to have to replace. Filling reservoir full may make it tougher to put bigger things in. Don't leave it unattended as everyone desires and I made that mistake. = stolen.... Not paying for that again!!!

                      Comments about CamelBak Motherlode™:

I've had this pack for approx. 1 year now. I needed a bag that would have a large bladder, plus a fair amount of storage space inside it, and it doesn't disappoint in the least. I've had this pack underwater, tossed out of a speed boat with me attached, countless hours on my back in a chopper, through the mud, dirt, trees, snow, ice, etc., and it's still as good as the day I got it.

If you need a pack that you can live out of for a few days, or just something that'll carry a lot of your gear, or even clothes for a weekend trip, get this, you'll never be disappointed.

i have three of these bags. one for bugout, one for everyday and one for the range. the outside dimensions easily fit all torso sizes. yet the interior is huge. i am able to pack all sorts of gear into it and still have room. my bugout bag is full but i utilized the molle on the outside to mount multiple pouches for chemlights, mags and med kit. great job camelbak, keep up the great work

Let me start out with I have owned many backpacks (multiple Underamour, multiple Oakley, Alice, and current USGI pack)but this one is by far the best pack I have ever owned! The hydration area is big enough to fit an extra bladder which works perfectly for extended bike rides or hikes. There are so many pockets and there is a lot of real estate on the sides and on the front to add extra pouches, this way I can carry extra mags, food, cameras, etc. This is a great pack and it is worth every penny!

Just bought this pack as a large hunting daypack, and to use as a travel pack for hunting trips. This tactical pack looks like it'll be a perfect hydration pack for serious hunting situations where lots of H20 and lots of cargo capactiy for layering and hunting equipment. This looks like it's the best I've found - particularly since all of the non-tactical packs are bright colors and completely impractical for a hunting environment.
