PACK CLEANING
We recommend wiping your pack with a damp cloth to remove dirt. If the pack is extremely dirty and needs a deeper cleaning, soak it in cool or warm water with a very mild soap. Rinse the pack thoroughly with cool water. If soap residue remains in the fabric, it may create suds if exposed to water or sweat.

DO NOT wash your pack in a washing machine. Machine washing may damage the pack or affect the integrity of the fabric and fasteners, and will void the Got Your Bak™ Guarantee.

RESERVOIR CLEANING
The best way to care for your reservoir is to clean and dry it after every use, especially if you fill the reservoir with anything other than water. However, if a reservoir has not been cleaned after every use, and mold or discoloration develops:

  1. Use hot water and a CamelBak Cleaning Tablet. (Or use 2 tablespoons of baking soda or bleach instead of CamelBak Cleaning Tab.) Mix the solution inside your reservoir and elevate the reservoir above the tube and Big Bite Valve. Pinch the bite valve, allowing the solution to flow into the drink tube and fill the bite valve.
  2. Let the reservoir and cleaning solution sit in the reservoir and drink tube for about 30 minutes.
  3. Wash the reservoir with hot water and mild soap. Be sure to completely rinse away the cleaning solution in the reservoir and drink tube before using again. You can also use CamelBak brushes from our Cleaning Kit to scrub your reservoir and drink tube. Brushes are the best way to ensure you are scrubbing all of the areas of the reservoir clean.
  4. Once the reservoir is clean, be sure to air dry overnight so no moisture is trapped inside, which can cause mold to grow.

These steps will make your reservoir safe for use. If there are still spots left behind, these are permanent mold stains that may not be removable. However, your reservoir is still safe and usable after you’ve cleaned it.

      Comments about CamelBak Linchpin™:

I use this pack for everything currently. I am a fulltime college student so it carrys my books and other EDC iteams. I use this pack when I go hiking or out to my shooting range. Carrying hiking stuff, and range stuff etc etc. Whats great is this pack can carry 30lbs comfortably (or however comfortable carrying 30lbs can get). Anyhow when you load this bad boy down, and throw it on, you know its going to do its job.

Two of the biggest positives (IMO) that sold me on this pack was 1. Lack of molle, I did not want a "military" Molle'd out pack, I did not want it to stand out as one either. To me this pack stands out as an fancy "hiking" pack (which it has been addressed as by others). 2. Futura harness, it was nice to have something designed to carry weight.

The draw back I can think of is, (its more of a pet peeve) is the back can't stand up. I just flops over like it got shot or something. Second, the padded bacl panel seems nice and comfortable, and it is, but it also poor back ventalation, back will get sweaty for prolonged use.

all said and done, I love this pack.

      Comments about CamelBak Linchpin™:

I have four other Camelbak packs, and love them all. For some reason I just overlooked the Linchpin initially, but I wish I hadn't. This pack fits me best b/c it has a lot of the features the other four have rolled into one pack.

Like another review mentioned, there is no "perfect" pack b/c of all the different types of missions; however, this pack is pretty near perfect for short/medium range military ops or as an EDC. My only question really is related to the opening for the hydration pouch. Why didn't you just carry the opening all the way over to an equal distance to the other side rather than stopping about 3/4 of the way? It makes the opening a little smaller to deal with if you want to use that pouch for anything other than the bladder. Otherwise, I think this pack is perfect.

The only other thing I'd consider changing is the size of the side M16 magazine pouches to make them a little taller (like the ones on the BFM), but understanding what this pack was made for, it fits that bill perfectly.

I love the shape and layout of this pack. The size is great, and the stuff it pouch btwn the admin pouch and main compartment is nice for a weapon or light jacket, or just other bits and bobs you want to be able to get to quickly.

The goggles pouch is also great for things like cell phone charger, earphones (like iPhone earbuds), sunglasses (in a pouch), etc. Also, the material is 500D Cordura nylon which is lighter making the pack a little lighter than some other great packs made with 1000D nylon, but it is more durable than you are, rest assured.

The small pouch on front is handy just for a little extra space, and I have no problems getting into it. It's perfect for small little things you want to be able to remember where you put them, and free up some space in the admin pocket. The harness system is really nice! You can tell it is very sturdy and designed for good use.

I know a lot of folks don't like not having the Molle webbing, but I like the absense of it b/c it makes the pack look not so much like a military type pack, which helps to keep a low profile in the civilian community. Being in the reserves, I like to have quality packs for use, but folks in the civilian world seem to look at you funny when you use "military" stuff. They ask questions like they're obligated to talk to a soldier. Don't mind getting the thanks, but don't want to have to answer a lot of question about what I do. LOL! Some folks just scoff at you b/c they think you're a mindless killer, but this pack makes an easy transition into civilian use as well. Ironically, it is made more for military ops than all the other packs!

My other Camelbak packs are the H.A.W.G. (one older gen and a new generation pack), Motherlode, and the BFM. It think I'm covered for just about anything I will ever need, but I will use them all from a bugout bag to my wife's emergency car pack. I recommend them all! Camelbak is the best on the market, in my opinion.

      Comments about CamelBak Linchpin™:

I've read the other reviews and by no means is there the perfect pack. Any experienced operator in the field knows the pack and equipment you bring depend on the mission.

This is my second Camelbak pack, also have the first generation H.A.W.G. I do SAR ops. as a WEMT and needed a smaller pack to hold enough equipment for a 24hr deployment compared to my other pack that's meant for an extended op. Its just the right size to hold my necessary medical gear and field equipment. I use the bladder compartment to hold a large trauma dressing, 2 SAM splints and 1 HALO chest seal. The rest of the compartments I've filled with a small trauma kit, woods tools, emergency shelter materials & navigation instruments. I use the webbing on the bottom for attaching either a large horizontal pouch for more storage or a litter.

Yes, others have said it needs PALS molle webbing. I can go in either direction. The smooth exterior allows me to move through the thick brush we get in the spring & summer months with out getting hung up or snagged. I did replace the pull cord on the zipper handles with para cord 550. But having the ability to attach additional pouches or gear isn't a bad idea either. Again, it depends on what the mission calls for.

Over all, think its a really great bag. I would recommend this pack for anyone in the military and for those who enjoy the outdoors.

      Comments about CamelBak Linchpin™:

I really love the build quality of this bag, 500D Cordura is perfect, I would think 1000D would be to heavy. I have this bag in Coyote Brown and the color is very nice, especially for out here in Arizona but I wish they also offered it in black. I currently have used this bag for 4 months now and I use it as my everyday carry bag. The bag itself is built like a tank and I don't think you can go wrong with Camelbak quality. I am also a fan of the zip pulls on this bag and I like how the tension straps have Velcro on them so you don't have access strapping hanging off the bag.

Camelbak bladders are the cream of the crop if you ask me. They have a quick-disconnect, shutoff valve, dust cover, and insulation. You also get multiple access ports on the Linchpin to route the hydration line.

I have been able to fit a Dell D630 laptop in the backpack but it is a very tight fit in the main compartment. This model laptop will not fit in the bladder panel because the zip opening isn't big enough to get the laptop in. You would be able to stash a tablet easily in the bladder panel however. I think Camelbak should remake this bag or make another version that has a separate laptop compartment.

The top stash pocket is nice but I think it should be lined with a softer material like felt or something. This would make it less likely to scratch up your sunglasses or the screen on your phone. They should also add a divider or organizational back panel in the stash pocket because it is nice and big in size for a stash pocket.

This bag will tip over on itself unless you have the main compartment filled with gear. This is my number one gripe with the bag. I even cut a flat piece of plastic and placed it at the bottom of the main compartment to give it more stability but it doesn't help any. I believe the problem with it tipping over is due to the Futura Harness and the back panel. The back panel is curved for your back and that is causing the bag to tip over. I didn't realize how much I like a bag to be able to sit upright until I got this bag.

I wish the main compartment was a little bigger and I also wish it was easier to access the items you have in the main compartment. I think the curve of the back panel is the cause of this problem as well. If you have a bunch of loose items, it would be hard digging through them in the main compartment, even if you have the side tension straps loosened. I wish it was a clam shell design instead especially since it comes with the side tension straps. The BFM is a clam shell design, not sure why they didn't do that with this bag as well. Clam shells are the easiest to pack and sort through if you ask me.

The organization pocket needs work, when I have the bag filled up; I find it difficult to access the items in the organization sub-pockets because the pockets curve downwards. Again, I believe this curve is caused from the Futura Harness. I wish the pock sat straight so I could have easier access to my multitool, etc. I find myself almost digging on the bottom of the bag to access the items in the organizational pockets. I also think they could have put more/better sub-pockets in the organizational pocket as well. Look at the attached pictures and you will see what I mean that half the pocket curves under the bag, I have a good 4 inches of reaching to do in order to access some of my items. This is a real pain in the butt sometimes, especially since I can't even see what I am reaching for.

I understand the intent of this bag is for military use but I think if they changed some items, it would make for a great EDC and hiking bag. The Futura Harness has its pro's but I also think that causes my main frustrations with the bag. I hope Camelbak reads this review because if they take some of my suggestions, I think they could have one of the best-selling bags of all times. All in all, I am happy with the bag but I am not sure if this bag will serve as my EDC bag in the future.

I wouldent sually take the time to write reviews but this is worth it, i am a student, and my favorite hobbie is traveling and trecking. Ive take this bag to university and it has acompanied me to travels all around the world for almost 2 years now. I went bakcpacking last summer and i wanted to travel light s i took my linchping. I was able to store up to 4 sets of clothes, all my equippment, celphone, maps, tools, food and doucmentation was safely stored and organized thank to all the pockets. Its capacity is incredible and it has many pouches distributed conveniently. I dont carry the hydration pack and of course that gives me extra space but i just love this pack. Probably one of the 3 best buys i have made. The overflow is amazing too, it allows me to quickly store all sorts of items, altough there is no webbing i have found multiple attach points to secure other items with a carabiner.

The only thing i dont lke is the futura harness as i think it adds too much weight. Nevertheless this is not a voluminous pack, quickly detachable, comfortable and it allows for a great range of manourability. Very very resistent to abration too. I will buy this Linchping again in some years to replace my old one.

Fantastic pack! I use it all the time, for almost whatever I'm doing. The only problem is that it doesn't have any molle loops for additional, purpose specific pouches. It fits tightly to your body with the adjustable frame. At 6' tall, I haven't nearly maxed out the height of the frame. After a year and a half, the frame hasn't moved an inch, and it doesn't get babied.

I really like this pack, my only hangup with it is the lack of molle and on the front panels. I'd trade molle for that weird slanted front pocket in a heartbeat. Secondly, I put molle webbing all the way down into that little channel between the two panels. The molle allows for modularity and seems to be the only thing making this truly the perfect pack for it's size and purpose.
