CLEANING THE EDDY STAINLESS
The eddy Stainless bottle can be easily cleaned with a bottle brush using warm water and mild soap.

Cleaning the lid:
The bite valve, straw and lid can be cleaned in the top rack of the dishwasher or by hand with warm, soapy water. Pull off the bite valve and straw from the cap. If you like to use a bottle brush, we don’t recommend forcing a brush through the Bite Valve slit. If you have the brush kit, run the small brush through the straw.

For a deeper cleaning, add a drop of mild soap or tablespoon of bleach to a clean glass jar filled with water. Drop the bite valve, straw and cap into the solution, and tightly close the jar’s lid. Shake the mixture around for 30 seconds, and then let the parts soak for about 15 minutes. Rinse and shake dry.

To re-assemble the lid:
Flip the stem collar (the component the bite valve attached to originally) to the open position. Orient the bite valve so the finger tab points towards the front of the cap. Push the bite valve firmly onto the stem collar. Press the straw back into place on the bottom of the lid. Ensure the straw covers the notches completely.

FAQ

The bite valve on my new bottle doesn't have a slit (opening) and I can't drink from it
The self-sealing silicone can sometimes seal tightly before first use. To open, squeeze the bite valve and twist & roll between your fingertips. This should loosen the seal and open it up for drinking. If you're still experiencing problems, please request a new bite valve using our Warranty Parts Form.

What are CamelBak® Stainless Bottles made of?
All materials in CamelBak® bottles are selected for their safety, durability, and cleanability. All materials are BPA-free and safe for use in a hydration bottle. CamelBak® does not use materials that contain harmful phthalates.

The new CamelBak® eddy™ Stainless Insulated .5L and eddy™ Stainless .7L are made with medical-grade stainless steel. Stainless steel is a special type of steel that is naturally stain-resistant, corrosion-resistant and taste free. Because of these unique benefits, stainless steel is used in a variety of products from cookware and mugs to medical and surgical devices and food processing equipment. Stainless steel is strong, scratch-resistant and provides a naturally bright, clean finish without coatings or paints.

The CamelBak® eddy™ caps used on our stainless steel bottles are made primarily from polypropylene, with other plastics that are all BPA-free and free of harmful phthalates. The bite valve is medical-grade silicone for long life and taste-free performance. The straw is made of polyethylene, the same material used in milk jugs.

Why stainless steel and not aluminum?
When we design a product we look for the best material to satisfy customer requirements. For metal bottles, consumers tell us they prefer the durability and purity of stainless steel. Aluminum bottles have to be made with an inner coating or liners—often with undisclosed ingredients—to protect the metal, which isn’t required on a stainless steel bottle. Stainless steel is also stronger, harder and more scratch resistant than aluminum, making a more durable long-lasting bottle for all your adventures.

What is vacuum insulation and how is it made?
To make our Insulated .5L bottle we first construct an inner and outer bottle which are sealed together and welded shut to be completely air-tight. Then the bottle is connected to a high-power vacuum pump which removes all the air from the gap in between the inner and outer bottle. Since there’s nothing to conduct heat across the gap, vacuum insulation is more effective than foam or other common insulating materials. Vacuum insulation works so well, it is the technology of choice for cryogenic storage tanks and other high-performance insulating vessels. Our vacuum insulated bottle can keep your beverages cool for hours.

Thanks to the people at Camelbak I had the chance to give the Camelbak Stainless Steel Eddy bottle a go and I am now a fan for life. Whether you are on the go or just relaxing at home, the Eddy is a great bottle. I tend to be on the clumsy side, so I use this bottle in place of a glass on my bedside table at night. With the no spill bite valve, there is no problem if you knock it over while fumbling for a drink or if you drop while you're on a hike. Since it's insulated stainless steel, breaking this bottle is pretty much impossible. The bite valve takes a little getting used to, but the flip down design is nice if you like a little added protection from dust and dirt while outdoors without the inconvenience of an easy to lose cap. The loop on the lid is great for carrying but you don't really need it unless you plan to hook it on your backpack. The bottle is cool to the touch but doesn't "sweat". The insulation does the job and keeps water cool for hours on end. This is a great bottle. The only downside would be that it isn't suitable for hot beverages.

Recently I found that CamelBak started to make bottles from stainless steel. In hope that this one will not smell I bought this bottle. In the section "Product Specification" is written "Bottle Material: BPA-Free 302 Stainless Steel". And how I was surprised when after I got it on and opened, I revealed that bottle material has plastic upper. Please see attached photo. I don't have a problem with plastic but in this case, like in previous bottle, this plastic produces strong plastic smell - exactly the thing that I tried to avoid when purchased stainless steel bottle.

May you please answer questions below.
What is a material of plastic part?
Why on the site is not written that a bottle has also plastic part besides stainless steel?
Why on the site written "Naturally 100% BPA-Free, taste-free stainless steel. No inner liners or plastic coatings that aluminum bottles require." but in reality it has plastic?

        Thanks.

Comments about CamelBak eddy™ Stainless Insulated .5L:

I use my bottles every day all day long. At home I fill a bottle with ice and RO water in the morning and set it on the kitchen counter. During the day I just add more RO water. As a do my house work I always have cold water available. I fill a bottle and take it with in the van when I go any place; the bottles fit in the cup holders of my mini van just fine. The water stays cold all day, even in on 90 degree days. I fill a bottle and set on the patio so I have cold water available as I do gardening. I hate the taste of Minneapolis city water, so I filled the 3 bottles I owned at home and took them to the ICU where I work. Last week I forgot 2 of the bottles at work and they disappeared (guess other people know a good product when they see it). I will be ordering more bottles to replace the lost ones. I have had my bottles several years and so far no rust or no breakage issues. My bottles to get dropped on occasion and so far other than a few very small dents no problems. The only negative I can state is each bottle is only 0.5liters, only about 2 cups. Wished there would be a 0.75 or 1.0 liter bottles.

I've bought 3 of these water bottles now. The first several years ago for myself, then another one for my husband, and now one for a friend. I have not seen the rust problem others have commented on. My original from several years ago has no rust and the body has held up well even with dropping on cement, etc. My only complaint is that the spout/bite-valve has broken on me twice but Camelbak has replaced each time free of charge. My favorite water bottle!

I have 3 of these insulated SS bottles. My oldest is 4 years old. Never had any issues with rust, odors or bad taste. These bottles literally keep ice frozen for over 24 hours indoors and most of the day in the heat of summer outdoors. No sweating ever. But the caps are a different story. My first two bottles were with Better Bottle caps, both of which broke at the hinge of the bite valve stem in about a year or less and I rarely folded the valve down. So now I have 2 Eddy caps. One fairly new one is useless now as the air relief valve has failed and will not allow air to inflow, so no outflow of liquid to me, no matter how many times I try to clean it. I've requested warranty. My other Eddy cap does the same thing but only occasionally. But they did improve the hinge design with the Eddy cap. And with the BB caps, I never had the flow problem. Hmmm.

Learned rust is not covered by warrantee - why not say, "Greatest water bottle for an entire summer and THEN needs to be replaced so your water doesn't taste like rust! Disappointing.

I am a teacher and I drink water all day. I hate tepid water so I like to fill up with ice in the morning and keep adding water all day. I have five camelbak eddys and this is by far the best because I can literally leave ice in there for OVER 24 HOURS and it's still frozen the next day! I just wish I could get a larger insulated stainless one! The plastic ones are great too but they don't keep the ice as cold. I love these because they don't sweat on my desk.

Walking around campus, a camelbak is an absolute must-have. They never leak, and involve no twisting to open. Brilliant engineering. I justified treating myself to the high-quality bottle since it's MUCH better for the environment than bottled water. I used the bottle as directed, and only used it for cool water (no juice, coffee, etc.) I even washed it by hand. I'm sad to say that after a year of use, there's severe rusting on both the upper rim and inside bottom of the bottle. Consequently, the water from it is undrinkable. I still love camelbaks, so I bought another one (this time, plastic!) but I really hope this lasts more than a year. I wouldn't suggest the stainless steel to anyone looking for a long-lasting bottle, because mine rusted even with a lot of precaution. Perhaps most of the positive reviews have not used the bottle long enough to experience this. Go for the plastic!

Why on the site written "Naturally 100% BPA-Free, taste-free stainless steel. No inner liners or plastic coatings that aluminum bottles require." but in reality it has plastic?

                                      Thanks.
