CLEANING THE EDDY KIDS BOTTLE
We can’t offer up the bottle cleaning equivalent to the five-second rule, you just gotta do it. It won’t take long, and your kids will be eternally grateful. We recommend first removing your one-piece bite valve and straw for cleaning. It’s easy to do. (Yes, it looks like a lot of steps here, but it really is easy):

  1. Flip the stem to the open position by pulling on stem tab.
  2. Turn cap over and pull out the straw.
  3. Grab the flat finger tab on the base of the Big Bite Valve under the cap.
  4. In one firm motion, pull the Big Bite Valve component out of the cap.
  5. Clean the bite valve and cap by hand or in the top rack of a dishwasher.

If you use a dishwasher, a top-rack basket for small parts is ideal, and it’s good to avoid high-heat settings like 'sanitary clean' or 'heat boost' which may distort plastic components. If you clean by hand, use warm, soapy water. If you like to use a bottle brush, make sure it doesn't have exposed metal edges that could cut the silicone, then insert the brush into the open end at the base of the valve. We don't recommend forcing a brush of any kind through the Big Bite Valve slit (where you drink from) as this could damage the sealing surfaces of the Big Bite Valve.

To re-insert the bite valve back into the cap:

  1. Flip the stem collar (the component the bite valve passed through originally) to the open position. You should be able to look through both the opening in the cap and the opening in the collar.
  2. Turn the cap over and orient the bite valve so the finger tab points towards the back of the cap (where the handle loop is).
  3. Insert the tip of the bite valve through the cap and the collar until the end of the Big Bite Valve peeks through the outer end of the collar.
  4. Turn the cap over and grab the end of the Big Bite Valve and pull through until it sits in the grooves incorporated into the collar. If you pull the Big Bite Valve too far out these grooves will be visible. Just press the valve back down until these grooves are seated.
  5. Turn the cap over and press on the base of the valve to make sure it is seated.
  6. Insert the straw (either end it doesn't matter) into the hole in the valve base. Don't over-insert the straw just until you feel resistance.

FAQ

How do I put the Big Bite™ Valve back in the cap?
Follow these instructions to re-insert the Big Bite™ Valve component:

  1. Flip the stem collar (the component the bite valve passed through originally) to the open position. You should be able to look through both the opening in the cap and the opening in the collar.
  2. Turn the cap over and orient the bite valve so the finger tab points towards the back of the cap (where the handle loop is). Insert the tip of the bite valve through the cap and the collar until the end of the Big Bite™ Valve peeks through the outer end of the collar.
  3. Turn the cap over and grab the end of the Big Bite™ Valve and pull through until it sits in the grooves incorporated into the collar. If you pull the Big Bite™ Valve too far out these grooves will be visible. Just press the valve back down until these grooves are seated.
  4. Turn the cap over and press on the base of the valve to make sure it is seated.
  5. Insert the straw (either end, it doesn’t matter) into the hole in the valve base. Don’t over-insert the straw, just until you feel resistance.

Can I use a bottle brush on the Big Bite™ Valve?
Yes. The Big Bite™ Valve is made from tough silicone material that can be cleaned with a bottle brush similar to those designed for baby bottle nipples. Make sure the brush doesn’t have exposed metal edges that could cut the silicone. Then insert the brush into the open end at the base of the valve. We don’t recommend forcing a brush of any kind through the Big Bite™ Valve slit (where you drink from) as this could damage the sealing surfaces of the Big Bite™ Valve.

How is the eddy™ Kids Bottle cap different from the regular CamelBak eddy™ cap?
The eddy™ Kids Bottle and eddy™ both feature the easy-to-use, spill-proof Big Bite™ Valve technology, a convenient straw-feed format, and flip-close-to-shutoff stem configuration. The eddy™ Kids Bottle cap, however, features a Kids'-specific Big Bite™ Valve and stem design made from a single piece of medical grade silicone. This one-piece construction prevents a child from pulling the bite valve off accidentally, but makes it easy for a parent to remove and place in the dishwasher for cleaning.

Can I use carbonated beverages?
We do not recommend the use of carbonated beverages in the CamelBak™ Kids’ Bottle. Because of the spill-proof sealed construction of the bottle, carbonated beverages can cause pressure build-up that while not dangerous, can result in an experience like opening a shaken-up can of soda. To use with carbonated beverages, we recommend that you remove the straw and drink using the “tip and sip” method like an ordinary sippy cup.

Can I freeze the bottle?
You can freeze the bottle but make sure:

  1. The bottle is not completely full when you do this (we recommend only 3/4 full to allow for expansion of the water as it freezes to ice).
  2. The bottle is right side up
  3. We also recommend that the bite valve stem NOT be flipped up or down if there is any frozen water in the tube. Wait until thawed.

Can I use the CamelBak™ eddy™ Kids Bottle in high-altitude/ low-pressure environments? (i.e. airplanes, mountain altitudes, etc)
Yes, but with extra care because pressure can force liquid out throuth the straw. Always keep the bottle right side up and the bite valve in the closed position. Remove the straw for additional protection. Expect a bit of “spurt” during the first sip.

While babysitting my two year old niece last month, I discovered MY big-kid Camelbak Eddy was without a doubt the greatest sippy cup alternative ever. No spilling or leaking (unless she pushed on the straw valve) and best of all, no backwash. You know what I mean. Mouth full of food and now I MUST HAVE A SIP OF YOUR SWEET TEA NO I WILL NOT SWALLOW FIRST! Not wanting to sacrifice my Eddy to the greater good, we took a trip to our local outdoors shop and bought the darling a Kids' Eddy of her very own. Life changing.

        No, seriously.

She's prone to overheating at night and often wakes asking for a "wink." Every other sippy on the planet leaks, leading to damp sheets, and sometimes a little bit of a funky smell. Her first night with her Eddy was almost magical. I topped it off and tucked it into the corner of her pack'n'play. My husband and I didn't hear another peep out of her until WE went to bed a few hours later. Through out the night, I could hear her sip and suck away on her new little bottle. The first words out of her mouth in the morning were "More wink, pease!" as she waved her Eddy around. She and her bedding were completely dry. So was her Eddy, but we fixed that problem immediately.

It bounces. It attaches to clothes with a pacifier strap. It fits in pockets. It doesn't drip. Its lid is incredibly secure. It's super easy to open. It's fun to use! In the following two days that we had her, we only experienced leakage when she would play with the straw valve. We didn't have any problems with the connector slipping into the bottle. She ran around with it hanging from her teeth at one point. Can't do that with a regular sippy cup.

By the end of our weekend, Husband and I decided that we'll probably only use Eddys as sippy cups.

The only draw back is the size of the container versus the price paid. For water, it's more cost effective to just buy the 20oz version. For juice, milk, coconut water, whatever, the .4L is more than adequate. For running around days, the .4L will fit snuggly into little pockets (3t pants on a 2t waist), and in that case is better than hauling around a big 20oz. that may get lost. But for extended car time, or in the house or at daycare, go 20oz for water and .4L for everything else.

My wife and I use Camelbak bottles on a regular basis and absolutely love them. Our 18 month old son learned to drink from them too so we decided to buy him his own. With the kids bottle though we did notice different means of construction compared to the larger bottles. On the kids bottle the rubber mouth tip can be pushed back down into the bottle creating a gap allowing the contents to pour out. I do realize Camelbak stated a minimum age of 3 so maybe an older child may be more responsible. We will hold on to ours until our son can drink out of it without fiddling with the mouth piece.

CamelBak thinks of the Kids too!

Comments about CamelBak eddy™ Kids .4L:

We love CamelBak Products and we're stoked to find that they made bottles for our kids. Our son is about to start 2nd grade and our youngest daughter is about to start kindergarten. Now the whole family can enjoy CamelBak!

I was super stoked to find out that CamelBak included a well thought out valve for our kids like they have with their Podium Chill bottles. It's CamelBak's thoughtful design with their valve technology that has made them our favorite bottle brand. Thanks CamelBak!

Here's why you should consider these bottles for your kids. The valve allows the kids to get a mouthful of water or juice without having send straws with them in their lunch box (straws prevent tooth decay…look it up). We can confidently pack the Eddy bottle without fear of it leaking in his Darth Vader lunch bag/box. This is a HUGE plus and the reason we started looking for a new bottle for our son. The previous bottle we were using leaked and ruined his first Darth Vader Lunch Bag/Box.

If CamelBak could just add their Chill technology to the Eddy bottles, they would be perfect!

        PROS:
+ The bottle plastic does not get dingy or become faded and gray
        + Easy to handwash
+ Spill proof is an accurate claim
+ The valve comes off making it easy to clean
+ BPA Free makes my heart happy
+ Colorful graphics are cool looking and the kids dig em

        CONS:
        - The printed graphics on the bottle wear off after many washes in dishwasher

        Tips:
+ I suggest handwashing these bottles to prevent the printed graphics from wearing off

Our 18 month old daughter manages to push the rubber mouthpiece in nearly every time she drinks, thereby causing it to pour water on the floor when tipped over. I know she's considered young based on the age recommendation, but I think it's a poor design. We like Camel Bak products so will be buying a "grownup" top and replacing her top with it. I don't understand why they decided to alter the design for kids!

I've got 2 kids that both love to use these water bottles. It actually helped get them to drink a lot more water on a daily basis, which is great.

My problem with this product is the design for the lid/valve. This different design with the solid rubber piece is prone to leakage. one bump on the mouth piece and it pops out of position, going slightly inside of the lid, and then everything can leak out. My kids will toss these on the floor while playing and most of the time it results in half of the water going into the carpet.

As other reviewers and the product description point out, the valve/cap/straw configuration is different on the kids bottle than on the adult bottle. I've wanted a smaller eddy for years (I love my .75L but it's too large for the size of bag I carry daily and I prefer to have both hands free during my on-foot commute). The kids designs have been too childish for me to stomach until the tractor design came out. That I can live with, so I picked one up last week. The kids version has a smaller diameter straw, so the flow rate is much slower, which keeps surprising me. The kids version of the valve has a tendency to sploosh out water in inopportune places if you're not careful to let it refill with air before closing the bottle. I'm going to stick it out for another couple of weeks, and if I haven't adapted, I'll just buy a replacement regular eddy cap and straw and cut the straw down to size. The size is perfect for me though - just right for someone who hates feeling thirsty but doesn't mind refilling often. Speaking of refilling - the shorter size makes this bottle much easier to refill from water fountains, which comes in very handy.

We are a family of 6, We bought our first kid one for our oldest daughter for when she went to dance we loved them so much all 4 of our kids (2girls 2boys) have 3 each so we own almost every design. I absolutly love them, they don't leak and are easy enough that our youngest learned to drink out of them at 6 months when she could crawl and get to her siblings. If they push the valve down it can come loose and leak but we have only had this happen once. We also only put water in theirs because they love to use them and then I know they are getting a fair share of water and not drinking junk all day long. Camelbak Keep up the great cups we Love Them!!

We really like these bottles. Had no problem with an adult-sized bottle (that actually a four-year-old uses, he drinks that much water), but we bought a child-sized one and water is collecting on the spout.

We noticed construction of the spouts is different, so maybe that's why, but we don't get why it's collecting there. Then, if the bottle is moved without even touching the spout, the water spits out like a geiser. We've only had it for a couple of months so we're hoping with buying a replacement piece we can solve this and this one be a fluke.

Comments about CamelBak eddy™ Kids .4L:

I've been searching for a couple of years, looking for the "perfect" water bottle to pack in school lunches. We've gone through several other brands and had to discard them, usually because they would leak if left to lay on their side. Not so with the Camelbak! No leaks- even after the rough handling they receive at the hands of my kids.
I wish I'd found them sooner!
