CLEANING THE EDDY The bottle, bite valve, straw and lid can be cleaned in the top rack of the dishwasher or by hand with warm, soapy water. Pull off the bite valve and straw from the cap. If you like to use a bottle brush, we don’t recommend forcing a brush through the Bite Valve slit. If you have the brush kit, run the small brush through the straw.

For a deeper cleaning, add a drop of mild soap or tablespoon of bleach to a clean glass jar filled with water. Drop the bite valve, straw and cap into the solution, and tightly close the jar’s lid. Shake the mixture around for 30 seconds, and then let the parts soak for about 15 minutes. Rinse and shake dry.

To re-assemble the lid: Flip the stem collar (the component the bite valve attached to originally) to the open position. Orient the bite valve so the finger tab points towards the front of the cap. Push the bite valve firmly onto the stem collar. Press the straw back into place on the bottom of the lid. Ensure the straw covers the notches completely.

FAQ

First-time use: What’s the clear thing on top of the cap for? Do I remove it or cut it to drink?
The clear thing is the CamelBak® Big Bite™ Valve. This patented feature provides easy drinking and spill-proof safety. Do NOT remove or cut this piece to drink. Simply bite it slightly and sip as you would out of a straw.

Can/How do I freeze the CamelBak® eddy™ with bite valve?

You can freeze the bottle but make sure:

  1. The bottle is not completely full when you do this (we recommend only 3/4 full to allow for expansion of the water as it freezes to ice).
  2. The bottle is right side up

We also recommend that the bite valve stem NOT be flipped up or down if there is any frozen water in the tube. Wait until thawed.

Can I use the CamelBak® eddy™ in high-altitude/ low-pressure environments (i.e. airplanes, mountain altitudes, etc)?
Yes, but with special care because pressure can force liquid out through the straw. Keep the bottle right side up with the bite valve in the closed position. Remove the straw for additional protection. Expect a bit of “spurt” during the first sip. You may also twist the cap open to release any pressure and then close before your first sip.

Can I put hot liquids in it?
We do not recommend using with hot drinks because the experience will be similar to drinking hot liquid through a straw.

What happens if I put sports drinks/juice in the CamelBak® eddy™?
Use of any of these drinks in the bottle is fine, but thorough cleaning after each use is recommended.

Can I use with carbonated beverages?
You can use any beverage in the CamelBak® eddy™, however we do not recommend the use of carbonated beverages with the straw configuration because pressure can force liquid out through the straw. To use with carbonated beverages, we recommend that you remove the straw and drink via “tip and sip.”

What max temperature (freezing/boiling water) can the CamelBak® eddy™ withstand?
The CamelBak® eddy™ can withstand being filled with boiling water or stored in below freezing temperatures. We do not recommend boiling the bottle itself. Is the CamelBak® eddy™ microwave safe?

Feel free to use the CamelBak® eddy™ to warm up liquids (ie. up to a minute), but we don’t recommend cooking your dinner in it. Do NOT microwave with the cap in place as it contains metal screws that are not microwave safe.

Does the CamelBak® eddy™ work with back country purifier filters/microfilters?
The CamelBak® eddy™ is compatible with filters that adapt to a 63 mm screw top opening (in other words, it’s compatible with most filters on the market).

Does it hold residual taste?
No, there is no residual taste in the bottle materials, and it’s also stain-resistant. Some sports drinks and other flavored beverages can leave behind residue of flavor oils that could require extra cleaning.

What happens if I take the straw off?
Removal of the straw allows a “tip and sip” mode of drinking.

I initially go this at the BX in Florida for classroom training purpose. I'm not in the field so no point in a bladder or other products.

The way that condensation works, a cold item in a warmer room promotes condensation due to heat transfer from hot to cold. This being said, taking it out a fridge and placing it on a table will promote a condensation ring to show up on said table. Just sit it on a towel or something(MRE heater humor)

I haven't had the mildew issue people speak of, not saying it isn't possible or a hoax. I don't leave water in mine when it's not in use unless it's in the fridge.

As we moved to outside classroom training, the bottle didn't like to keep water cold for long even with smoked color. I ended up getting the Bottle pouch in NIR compliant FOLIAGE GREEN 90653 and that worked out fine. The bottle then sat for almost a year unused as I didn't need it.

Just recently I started using it again in my civilian life and it started to leak on me but luckily its at the loop end and not the bite valve end. The leak is right where the soft rubber like material meets the hard plastic. There is a tamper torx bit screw that I could tighten possibly, but I will just call em and see how the "Got your BAK lifetime guarantee" will cover my taking a screw driver to the product and modifying it(I.E. make it NOT leak water anymore)

I haven't deployed with this gear or lived an adventurous life so I can't tell you:

*How it holds up to heat cycles of Near the equator desert and freezer extremities
*How it survives being palatalized in cargo straps for a plane trip
*Survives being rolled over on while low crawling.
    *If it floats
*If the bottle withstands a dog or other animal holding it in it's mouth w/o puncture

Terrible, terrible, terrible execution on a relatively good idea. The pressure from water (mostly cold water) causes the spout to suck water up to normalize..causing it to leak CONSTANTLY! This is a MAJOR design flaw and I would steer anyone away from this concept. Plus, if you have anything aside from water, be weary of stagnant water in your sipper (yeah, nipple) so it needs to be cleaned thoroughly.

    Comments about CamelBak eddy™ 1L:

One or two ice cubes sufficient to cool liquid if you wish but if you want to keep your drink cold, then this isn't the right product for you. Only problem encountered so far is mouth piece didn't work properly and I couldn't get any water to come out. I removed mouth piece (just pull it off)and started pinching the end until the slit finally split open.(It took about a minute pinching the end from all directions.) Has worked great ever since. Quick note: For those who find that they can't grasp how to get water by sucking and biting at same time, try doing it with loop handle pointing straight up while biting on the mouth piece over towards the corner of your mouth instead of center. Got this for Christmas from my daughter so "Dad could work out at gym..." Was told really cold water not good for you when your hot so this thing is perfect for me. No problems with leaks yet but time will tell and if so,...there's that lifetime warranty!!!

I use it everyday that I leave the house. I love the soft spout and straw system. I took it apart to get the spout really clean and it must have been thrown out with the dish water. If it had been colored this would not have happened. I am ordering more.

I got this water bottle from a friend and it worked great for the first two months. Then all of the sudden, it started leaking! I take it to school every day because it is the only water bottle I currently have. I can't even put it on my desk or all of my papers get soaked, and when I do drink from it, it all comes flooding out of the top. It leaks EVERY time I use it! People pay $16 for a WATER BOTTLE because they expect it to be great! If I want to pay $16 for a WATER BOTTLE, there better not be any flaws. I could pay $5 for one at the dollar store and it would have better quality then this piece of junk. Oh, and don't tell me there is a difference between SPILLING and LEAKING. Either way there is water coming out of it, and I have knocked it over before...and guess what happened? IT SPILLED.

I use my water bottles everyday. At work I drive a school bus, so having it sit in my garbagecan next to me, I always have it handy!! As far as those saying it leaks. It is because you did not put the mouthpiece on correctly (which I have done a far a mount over the years). I have 4 grandson that I take geochaching over the years and they have their own bottles as well! I literally do not leave my home with out my camelback!! However it does need a sweat cover.
I own 5 of them. I can not bring myself to throw them away. I have been using them for bout 15 years.

I work in a gym and have this bottle on me all day, stash it it backpacks and use it during workouts. The quality of the parts is great and I haven't had any problems with leakage. My issue is this thing SMELLS. I take the bite valve and straw off and wash all the parts every night with soap, water and a bottle brush. I let them all dry in my dish rack over night. Still smells and the valve tastes bad. I've used baking soda, as well, to little effect. I don't think I should have to buy expensive cleansing tablets in order to clean a plastic water bottle. I'm disappointed because, as I mentioned above, this is a quality product otherwise.

I use the Eddy as a workplace hydration system. The Size of the Bootle is perfect, it allows me to have liquids available for many consecutive meetings without needing to leave to get a refill. it is shock resistant, i have dropped it a number of time on Concrete floors and haven't even marred the surface.

I did run into an issue when i first received it, the slit for the Bite valve had not been properly cut. No amount of Chewing biting would get it to open. I used a sharp object to pierce where the slit should have been and it opened the entire bite valve to normal specs. another issue to watch out for on this is the bite valve interns get partially pressurized when sitting and if you touch the valve it will spare some of the contents out. Overall i like it, however i would not depend on it for outdoor activities

This is version 2 of the bottle. Bring back the old design! Right upon purchase there was NO way to suck the water out using the spout. I had to chew through it to open a slit. The straw appears too long and constantly detaches from the lid or forms a seal with the bottom of the bottle, making it again impossible to drink water. I have to readjust the straw several times per week in order to use it. I will not buy another one.

I use this every single day. I'm a dancer and I go to the gym a lot. I use this when I'm active and even when I'm not. I honestly carry this everywhere I go, and I love it because it holds so much water. I maybe only have to fill it up three times a day.
I love the straw and mouthpiece on this. I have owned water bottles in the past without straws and I just don't like them. I think it's something about the mouthpiece that makes it exciting to drink water.
One thing is if you have very cold water, the pressure goes up the straw and some leaks out the mouthpiece. This problem can easily be solved by simply closing the mouthpiece.
Mine also started leaking from the seam of the cap and the bottle after about three months. I sent in my request for a new cap and hopefully it will come soon.

I just bought this bottle and it has taken me a couple of trys over a few days to get the rubber unit to ALLOW me to suck up my drink. I didn't want to force the issue and cause harm to the bottle. Then, suddenly, it opened up by pinching it with my fingers repeatedly and low and behold the drink started coming up. Yeah! It was not easy to get it to function correctly. I have been so annoyed with this purchase. The explanations leave something to be desired. Sorry for this part of my comment: it's sort of like the tip of a penis....I can't believe I said that.
