PACK CLEANING
We recommend wiping your pack with a damp cloth to remove dirt. If the pack is extremely dirty and needs a deeper cleaning, soak it in cool or warm water with a very mild soap. Rinse the pack thoroughly with cool water. If soap residue remains in the fabric, it may create suds if exposed to water or sweat.

DO NOT wash your pack in a washing machine. Machine washing may damage the pack or affect the integrity of the fabric and fasteners, and will void the Got Your Bak™ Guarantee.

RESERVOIR CLEANING
The best way to care for your reservoir is to clean and dry it after every use, especially if you fill the reservoir with anything other than water. However, if a reservoir has not been cleaned after every use, and mold or discoloration develops:

  1. Use hot water and a CamelBak Cleaning Tablet. Or use 2 tablespoons of baking soda or bleach instead of CamelBak Cleaning Tab. Mix the solution inside your reservoir and elevate the reservoir above the tube and Big Bite Valve. Pinch the bite valve, allowing the solution to flow into the drink tube and fill the bite valve.
  2. Let the reservoir and cleaning solution sit in the reservoir and drink tube for about 30 minutes.
  3. Wash the reservoir with hot water and mild soap. Be sure to completely rinse away the cleaning solution in the reservoir and drink tube before using again. You can also use CamelBak brushes from our Cleaning Kit to scrub your reservoir and drink tube. Brushes are the best way to ensure you are scrubbing all of the areas of the reservoir clean.
  4. Once the reservoir is clean, be sure to air dry overnight so no moisture is trapped inside, which can cause mold to grow.

These steps will make your reservoir safe for use. If there are still spots left behind, these are permanent mold stains that may not be removable. However, your reservoir is still safe and usable after you’ve cleaned it.

Comments about CamelBak Day Star™:

I bought the purple color one for my oldest daughter and she loves it. It is the right size for walking around and can carry lots of stuff. The CamelBak small/medium yellow rain cover fits this model. My daughter's Apple MacBook Pro 13" fits easily into this bag.

I also bought four (4) 2011 DayStar packs for my younger daughters. They all love them. I packed them out as survival packs in case of natural disaster (e.g., earthquake). They can hold a surprising amount of stuff, which does get heavy, but the girls did not want to part with any of the survival stuff I packed in them. It is really versitle and sized great for young teenaged daughters.

    Comments about CamelBak Day Star™:

I carry the 2009 version of this pack, but bought it in closeouts In 2010. I'm attached to my Day Star companion.
I've carried it to China and used it daily in China for a month to carry my essentials and clean water. It traveled well and comfortably through crowded Chinese busses and streets.
I've carried it on numerous day hiking trips. In the heat and humidity of the Southern summer, extra supplementary water is needed, but there's room for that. It has enough pockets to keep things organized.
I've carried it on kayaking/canoeing trips in the South, but none of them were whitewater. It did well...and didn't sink when it fell out of the canoe. It also dries quickly for a backpack.
After a while, it stinks...which stinks because it's hard to clean, but a sink, detergent, and determination do the trick.
Don't try to run in this pack. Even if you're moving quickly down an incline on a trail, it flops a little dramatically. An added simple, removable hip stabilizer belt would be nice for those more challenging hikes. However, it does fit well and feel great for normal walking and normal loads for decent hikes. It even does well for mountain biking. The stabilization issue is only when running. Don't carry it too heavy though. It could pull on your shoulders after a while, but if you're drinking your water like you should, the burden usually lessens soon enough. I don't recommend carrying the pack to school with more than one book in it though. It just wasn't made for that, so I'm not complaining about it, rather stating a fact.
Overall, I love my Day Star and will go for another when (and if) this one falls apart.

    Comments about CamelBak Day Star™:

Love this bag! I've already used it as an overnight bag, and I was able to fit my clothes, toiletries, and charger all in there and STILL had room! I've also been able to use it as a regular backpack (I only have a binder and notebook).

Pros: I love the color (aqua), and it's made of nice, sturdy material (I can tell that it won't rip easily). The back panel is VERY comfortable (nice and cushioned), and the overall shape of the bag is very nice and streamline. The pockets are deep.

Cons are few: The main adjustment straps are kinda ridiculously long. And you can't take off the harness straps.
