PACK CLEANING
We recommend wiping your pack with a damp cloth to remove dirt. If the pack is extremely dirty and needs a deeper cleaning, soak it in cool or warm water with a very mild soap. Rinse the pack thoroughly with cool water. If soap residue remains in the fabric, it may create suds if exposed to water or sweat.

DO NOT wash your pack in a washing machine. Machine washing may damage the pack or affect the integrity of the fabric and fasteners, and will void the Got Your Bak™ Guarantee.

RESERVOIR CLEANING
The best way to care for your reservoir is to clean and dry it after every use, especially if you fill the reservoir with anything other than water. However, if a reservoir has not been cleaned after every use, and mold or discoloration develops:

  1. Use hot water and a CamelBak Cleaning Tablet. (Or use 2 tablespoons of baking soda or bleach instead of CamelBak Cleaning Tab.) Mix the solution inside your reservoir and elevate the reservoir above the tube and Big Bite Valve. Pinch the bite valve, allowing the solution to flow into the drink tube and fill the bite valve.
  2. Let the reservoir and cleaning solution sit in the reservoir and drink tube for about 30 minutes.
  3. Wash the reservoir with hot water and mild soap. Be sure to completely rinse away the cleaning solution in the reservoir and drink tube before using again. You can also use CamelBak brushes from our Cleaning Kit to scrub your reservoir and drink tube. Brushes are the best way to ensure you are scrubbing all of the areas of the reservoir clean.
  4. Once the reservoir is clean, be sure to air dry overnight so no moisture is trapped inside, which can cause mold to grow.

These steps will make your reservoir safe for use. If there are still spots left behind, these are permanent mold stains that may not be removable. However, your reservoir is still safe and usable after you’ve cleaned it.

This pack is BEAST! I utilize this pack everyday. I use it mainly to carry my duty belt to and from work along with importartant paperwork. Holds all of my equipment needed for the range. It's rugged and the construction is second to none. I love the black "murdered out" look of the black BFM, i.e. sleek and stealth. Camebak is great American product! This is the trusted name in the law enforcement community.

I own two of the older (i.e. good) Camelbak BFM packs and they're awesome... rugged, durable, bomb proof. I just ordered a third and thought I received a knock-off imitation in the mail. Upon closer inspection, it is indeed a genuine Camelbak pack, but they've obviously gone the way of so many other manufacturers and begun to cut corners on production over profit. I spoke with Camelbak directly and they confirmed what I thought. They've changed the design and have begun using cheaper thinner fabric, removed the MOLLE webbing from the outer pockets, removed the lining in the goggles pocket, and the overall construction seems far inferior to my older BFMs. Too bad folks, it looks like another great product (and company) bites the dust. In my experience, not too many manufacturers turn around and go the other way by stepping up quality, materials, and features. This one's gone.

        Comments about CamelBak BFM™:

I purchased mine in Iraq 2010. It has seen overseas combat, stateside training, military and personal travel, and has been around the world multiple times. I currently use it for college. It has survived 4 years of extreme use and still works like new. I'm looking to buy one or two more (multicam and foilage). Yes, it's just THAT good! I'd highly recommend it. Avoid cheap imitations, it's worth every penny. It has become my "lucky pack" as it has been everywhere with me. The only item that has failed is the string on the zipper pulls. This is actually testament to the zipper and backpack quality. The pull-string rubbed across the cordura so many times (hundres of times opening and closing) it friction-cut through the string. I easily replaced with 500 cord and it's GTG.

        Comments about CamelBak BFM™:

I use this pack as my EDC pack. It replaces the RUSH 72, which is a great pack, because I like the design better, and it is made in the USA. The admin pocket is laid out very well, and the main compartnemt holds a ton! I like the access point for the hydration bladder as it makes for a very useful laptop compartment as well. Another great feature are the side pockets. The lower two pockets on either side hold a liter bottle easily, which I like to free up the compartments for more stuff. I like to take gym clothes to work, and not have to take two bags, for example.

I think the only thing I would change would be to remove the luggage straps and put a stuff it pouch instead b/c sometimes things get caught on those straps. Great pack and worth every penny!

        Comments about CamelBak BFM™:

I have transitioned out of the USMC and I requested this specific pack from VA's VR&E as I spend a majority of time on crutches and need to transport books, laptops, etc, for work and happen to drink loads of water. This pack is essentially my briefcase. It works great in that capacity with a few exceptions.

All loads ride VERY low putting a lot of strain on the lower back. Its comfortable until you get into the 30 lb range and the water bladder can be uncomfortable when full if the pack is loaded as it sits directly against the plastic wall/ "frame" that is against your spine; this can shift the load to one side or the other unexpectedly. If the same volume bladder (or even larger) was sized to to fill the area it is placed in, that would add a padding that would be uncomparable and behave almost "frame like"... If it were the width and depth of the pack and about an inch or so thick.. oh man I am dreaming now (HINT HINT HINT HINT).. but I digress.

Once the shoulder straps are cinched tight, they stay there, but the tab on the release is so small that it takes some effort to loosen them if you went too tight.

I wouldn't trust it in the field. Took my dog for her first walk in the rain this evening; kind of a drizzle and the rain soaked through easily. Its difficult to position comfortably with a heavy load and I can't imagine a combat load faring any better, and probably worse.

The clamshell opening of the cargo area is awesome as well as the multiple mesh pockets inside. The restraints against the "frame" are perfect for a man pac radio and also work well for laptops/tablets (but elastic would serve the civi purpose better). The smaller outer compartment holds a lot of my office stuff; pens, files, cables, staplers, etc. As I said before, its my briefcase, but to an extreme; its a portable office.

Overall, its a large, well made backpack that can carry water. I use it every day, but I dont think I would carry it into a combat zone.

          Comments about CamelBak BFM™:

I purchased one of these packs several years ago and quickly became intensely infatuated with it for how well laid out it is. After awhile, it came to be loaded out as a 'Bug-Out-Bag' while not being used for more specific purposes like hunting. And to this end, I thought it sat far-and-above the SHTF load-outs of my friends/acquaintances. But alas, I ultimately abandoned it for a Kifaru 'Marauder' pack for the sole reason that the BFM is NOT an efficient load-bearing pack by comparison to the Kifaru for the sole fact that it has NO internal frame! Oh, how if the design team at Camelbak would simply add such a feature! I'd unload my Kifaru 'Marauder' and hand it over to the first homeless guy I could find, ordering TWO of the BFMs post-haste!!!

I work as an equipment operator in one of the largest open pit surface mines in America. I have used many packs, bags, etc. over the years, and never have found a pack that offers such versatility as the BFM pack. Aside the versatile use, this product has performed well above the others that I have used and abused. I hope Camalbak still offers this product when I'm in need a new one!!! Thanks Camalbak!!!

I looked @ blackhawks, spec ops and this is without a doubt the best one. I made minor adjustments to make the bag compressed, tight, and so the bag sits high and not low when fully packed. Went to Walmart and purchased two 6 foot black straps and threaded one top to bottom on the side, through the molle side pockets and the other from the front pouch molles back through the backside of the belt loop. This is now a small daytime pack that I use everyday. This pack will last you forever.
