RESERVOIR & TUBE CLEANING
The best way to care for your reservoir is to clean and dry it after every use, especially if you fill the reservoir with anything other than water. However, if a reservoir has not been cleaned after every use, and mold or discoloration develops:

  1. Use hot water and a CamelBak Cleaning Tablet. (Or use 2 tablespoons of baking soda or bleach instead of CamelBak Cleaning Tab.) Mix the solution inside your reservoir and elevate the reservoir above the tube and Big Bite Valve. Pinch the bite valve, allowing the solution to flow into the drink tube and fill the bite valve.
  2. Let the reservoir and cleaning solution sit in the reservoir and drink tube for about 30 minutes.
  3. Wash the reservoir with hot water and mild soap. Be sure to completely rinse away the cleaning solution in the reservoir and drink tube before using again. You can also use CamelBak brushes from our Cleaning Kit to scrub your reservoir and drink tube. Brushes are the best way to ensure you are scrubbing all of the areas of the reservoir clean.
  4. Once the reservoir is clean, be sure to air dry overnight so no moisture is trapped inside, which can cause mold to grow.

These steps will make your reservoir safe for use. If there are still spots left behind, these are permanent mold stains that may not be removable. However, your reservoir is still safe and usable after you’ve cleaned it.

I know a lot of people have trouble with theirs freezing, but I haven't had that problem. I did some climbing above tree-line in the snow without it freezing. I don't know what the temperature was, but it was cold and windy. I did drink often to keep the water flowing (I ran out of water, actually), and I also blew the water back into the tank so that the water wouldn't sit in the tube. Being hydrated made a huge difference at that altitude!

I haven't been skiing with it yet. I imagine that is probably a pretty intense test of it as well.

I need water when I ski backcountry and unfortunately this product doesn't work even at 32 degrees. It appears there are a couple spots where the line freezes up - at the bite valve (even with cover on it) and possibly where the line exits the pack. Not sure of the fix but maybe a wider diameter tube would slow the freezing process to longer than the time between drinks. Frequent consumption delays tube freezing but at some point its just not practical. I would echo the other reviewers question: What was low temp rating for this product? I am convinced that if Cambelbak thought this was important they could easily improve this product. I am a huge fan of their hydration systems. There is nothing better.

Doesn't work in temps around 15 deg.

Comments about CamelBak Antidote® Thermal Control Kit™:

Went skiing with a few buddies in temps around 15 deg. I had this insulated hose and my friend didn't. After 2 runs down the mountain both of our hoses were frozen solid. We even used warm water the next day and had the same problem. Best bet is to blow the water out of your hose back into the bladder when done drinking.

Comments about CamelBak Antidote® Thermal Control Kit™:

I bought one of these to be used recently on a ski trip to Colorado - January 2016. My hope was that it would provide me with an usable tube (not frozen). This was not the case however. After a few hours, the tube and mouthpiece were frozen, thus not usable. Perhaps I will try keeping part of the tube under my jacket next time. Although, that kind of defeats the purpose of me getting this insulated tube in the first place...

Comments about CamelBak Antidote® Thermal Control Kit™:

I used to just have the standard tube that comes with the Camelbak backpack, but I decided to invest in one of these mainly because of the mouthpiece cover. I absolutely love it, because it keeps it clean and the insulated tube is also nice!

Comments about CamelBak Antidote® Thermal Control Kit™:

I bought this tube for a XC ski trip where temps dipped into the single digits. My partner had a Geigerrig hydration pack with an insulated tube. The first time we went to take a drink, his tube was completely frozen. Mine had started to freeze but I could still pass water thru mine. I ended up putting the bite valve covered end inside my fleece to offer some protection from the minus 15 wind chills. This did the trick to keep the bite value working. Water in the tube never froze. The Geigerrig tube was unusable the entire time, so lucky thing that I took my 3 L bladder with me for both of us to drink!!

Comments about CamelBak Antidote® Thermal Control Kit™:

This product extends the freezing time in winter, and heating time in summer, but only by a non-useful margin. If you don't drink regularly in sub zero temperatures, your line will still freeze very fast. Similarly in summer, you get a mouthful of cooking hot water. Best thing to do in both environments is to allow water to flow back into reservoir and leave the tube empty when not drinking.

I bought the thermo insulated tube for hiking and kayaking. I hike all seasons.First day out it was 18° and about half way through the hike I noticed the tube and bite valve were frozen. I haven't used it in warm weather yet which is why I gave this product 3 star's. Camelbak has alot of great stuff but this ain't one of them. At least not in freezing conditions. Either way, it's still useful(summer and spring) but I wouldnt recommend buying it.

Comments about CamelBak Antidote® Thermal Control Kit™:

Drink often if just a sip and blow the fluid back into the reservoir bag to keep the tube clear - helps to prevent freezing. I have used the zoid for many years and have removed the reservoir and insulated tube with the black cover in other packs for hut trips. Works well. I think they need to redesign the insulated tube as wind probably penetrates the insulation on the tube. Better then other products out there for sure

My wife and I have just returned from Kilimanjaro. This product was bought due to the low temperatures experienced on 'summit night'. Unfortunately, despite using the insulating cap, no water was available above 5,000m. Obviously we had other water sources, but was very disappointing. Cannot recommend for sub-zero expeditions.
