PACK CLEANING
We recommend wiping your pack with a damp cloth to remove dirt. If the pack is extremely dirty and needs a deeper cleaning, soak it in cool or warm water with a very mild soap. Rinse the pack thoroughly with cool water. If soap residue remains in the fabric, it may create suds if exposed to water or sweat.

DO NOT wash your pack in a washing machine. Machine washing may damage the pack or affect the integrity of the fabric and fasteners, and will void the Got Your Bak™ Guarantee.

RESERVOIR CLEANING
The best way to care for your reservoir is to clean and dry it after every use, especially if you fill the reservoir with anything other than water. However, if a reservoir has not been cleaned after every use, and mold or discoloration develops:

  1. Use hot water and a CamelBak Cleaning Tablet. (Or use 2 tablespoons of baking soda or bleach instead of CamelBak Cleaning Tab.) Mix the solution inside your reservoir and elevate the reservoir above the tube and Big Bite Valve. Pinch the bite valve, allowing the solution to flow into the drink tube and fill the bite valve.
  2. Let the reservoir and cleaning solution sit in the reservoir and drink tube for about 30 minutes.
  3. Wash the reservoir with hot water and mild soap. Be sure to completely rinse away the cleaning solution in the reservoir and drink tube before using again. You can also use CamelBak brushes from our Cleaning Kit to scrub your reservoir and drink tube. Brushes are the best way to ensure you are scrubbing all of the areas of the reservoir clean.
  4. Once the reservoir is clean, be sure to air dry overnight so no moisture is trapped inside, which can cause mold to grow.

These steps will make your reservoir safe for use. If there are still spots left behind, these are permanent mold stains that may not be removable. However, your reservoir is still safe and usable after you’ve cleaned it.

Comments about CamelBak Mil Tac H.A.W.G.®:

I have the previous version of the HAWG; the one offered prior to the 2013 introduction of their new "Mil Tac" model. Wish they had simply kept the old build style and added Multicam as a color choice. For those of you considering this for an EDC pack, it's a great size. I don't even use the included bladder, and removed it to save a little room. You can fit a 2L Platypus collapsible bottle in the hydration compartment if you want to have the option of carrying H20, but without the bulk. (Wait, is that heresy? Camelbak combined with Platypus? Anyway...) The HAWG is darn-near perfect for carrying what you need on a daily basis.

Comments about CamelBak Mil Tac H.A.W.G.®:

I used this during a week-long trip to Costa Rica when I used it as a carry-on as well as a jungle and civilized day pack every day since we left in the morning and did not return until the evening. I had to keep a full day's supply of water, change of clothes, rain gear and a few other essentials basically at all times.

The pack was pretty loaded up every day and I didn't notice any seams starting to get loose or fraying of fabric. It's durable and feels like it will stand up to some abuse.

        My only complaints:
        * thin (1") waist belt - I replaced this with a waist belt from another company and it was fine thereafter. It was very easy to remove the existing one and replace it since it uses a velcro attachment. However, at least it has a waist belt as there are other Camelbak packs that do not have waist belts.
        * depth of the admin pocket - When you start putting things in the organization area of the admin pocket, it actually blocks the view of the bottom of that same pocket. I suppose it's a trade-off for the extra space they added. I just put infrequently used items in the bottom of that pocket.

A lot of civilian packs have a better ventilated back and other useful organization features like extra pockets or a light frame. This pack is more like a sack with straps. At the same time, this pack will probably outlast several civilian packs as they are typically constructed of lighter materials.

I upgraded the zipper pulls with gutted paracord wrapped in heat shrink, added shock cord to the bottom and included grimloc carabiniers to even further increase the flexibility. It did not let me down.

Comments about CamelBak Mil Tac H.A.W.G.®:

First I got rid of the extra webbing. Next, I stored the bladder for future use. It was now mission ready. I've deployed with this highly functional, durable, and sturdy pack more times than I'd like to count and every time it has not let me down. The nylon is indestructabe and the zippers do not fail. No modifications are necessary because it comes with everything you need to operate.

I've been using this bag almost every days for 8 years from -20C to +40C, in mountains, in deserts, at sea, in dust, in forests, in the sun, in the rain, in snowstorms, on 4 different continents. I've carried in it clothes, food, water, my office stuff, rocks, tools. It never leaves me. I never leave it. I always get back to it. I L-O-V-E it and when it dies I'll buy another one.

I got this bag with the Air Force ABU pattern for military duty and I love it. I was worried it would be to big and bulky but its just the right size I think. It can fit most things but don't expect to be able to live out of it for several days unless you pack lightly. This bag is top of the line.

I have used this pack every day walking for 2-3 miles with my dogs for 2 years. It is dusty, but not worn at all. I take out and fill the bladder every other time we go out, squeeze the bite valve numerous times on each walk to give the dogs water, and have had ZERO issues with anything. I keep it filled with extra clothing/food (me and dogs)/first aid/shelter in case we get stuck out somewhere. Nothing has failed/stretched/leaked or anything. It functions like brand new, just a little dustier. WORTH EVERY PENNY!!! Buy quality once and keep using for years. What a great investment. Thank you for creating this gear!
